Use Marinades: marinades help kill bacteria and according to various studies, reduce pathogens by up to 60 percent. Let your meats soak for a few hours in your marinade before cooking. The food will taste great and you’ll kill most of the bacteria.
Preheat for 30 mins: preheating your grill for less than 30 minutes will not be enough to kill the bacteria. Be sure to start early and let your grill get a nice preheat.
Don’t cross contaminate: using the same tools on chicken and steak is a surefire way to cross contaminate food. Instead use separate spatulas or wash them after switching between meats.
