What Happens To a Security Deposit in Your Los Angeles Apartment?

  |     |   Uncategorized

Getting a security deposit back can a tricky and almost impossible situation to navigate. It seems like landlords will find something wrong with your apartment no matter how great of shape you leave it in. However, did you know that landlords are not supposed to deduct your security deposit for normal wear-and-tear? Deposits are meant to cover any apartment damage or unpaid rent that a tenant has left.

Here is a quick list of what is considered normal wear-and-tear in your Los Angeles apartment.

  • Faded paint or wall paper
  • Broken plumbing from regular use
  • Dirty blinds and curtains
  • Rug wear-and-tear
  • Carpet wear-and-tear from furniture
  • Warped doors because of temperature
  • Wall dents from door handles
  • Broken lightbulbs
  • Pin holes in walls from hanging pictures (only for a non-excessive amount)
